There are 22 vacancies for Sub-Inspectors of Police in Hong Kong, and the Governor would like them filled by candidates who have had previous police experience, and would welcome transfers from the Palestine Police Inspectorate. Officers transferred would have credit and increments for their service and retain their seniority on appointment to the Hong Kong Force.
I enclose copies of a vacancy form which sets out the details of service in Hong Kong, and I have been asked to suggest that special attention should be drawn to the fact that the cost of living in that territory is said to be very high.
We suggest that you should send us particulars of, say, 35 Inspectors whom the Inspector-General could recommend for service in Hong Kong and who would like to be considered.
We would then, in consultation with the Commissioner of Police in Hong Kong who is now on leave here, select 22 of them for these appointments.
You will, of course, recull that in your staff telegram No. 786 of the 29th December, you requested that 10 Police Inspectors should
